Ephesians 2:4-5-- "But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved."
Over the next ten days, I want to unpack ten truths about being spiritually dead. Do we really need to be changed? Why is the new birth so necessary? Only when we really understand what it means to be dead can we really understand what it means to be alive.
Reason #1- Apart from the new birth, we are dead in trespasses and sins (Eph. 2:1-2) "And you were dead in the trespasses and sinsin which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—"
Dead = lifeless.
We walk with and follow the world. We have passions of the flesh. We carry out desires of the body and mind.
What does it mean to be spiritually dead? It means we cannot see or love the things of God. We are unresponsive to God and Jesus Christ.
When someone is spiritually dead, he does not desire God in any way, shape or form. He is comfortable in his "deadness," and he isunable to want God!
