bondage.

"Until we waken to our darkened spiritual condition, we live in sync with 'the present evil age' and the ruler of it. 'You once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience' (Ephesians 2:2).  Without knowing it, we were lackeys of the devil.  What felt like freedom was bondage.  The Bible speaks straight to twenty-first-century fads, fun, and addictions when it says, 'They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption.  For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.' (2 Peter 2:19)." -John Piper, Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die

Yes, yes, yes! I read Ephesians 2 last week. Thank you for explaining this verse so well!

I see this right now in my sister and her husband.  They are so hostile to the things of God but are miserable as they cling to ideologies and worldy wisdom.  I hate to see it but only hope that God is leading them to the end of things that do not satisfy as He did with me!
